BMW 6 Series Guide
We have researched what all the other magazines think about BMW’s 6 series and consolidated their opinion in one place for you.
The BMW 6 series groups together their luxury Coupés. BMW are trying to offer a practical car which is spacious combined with a good feature set and a high quality interior.
There are four cars in the BMW 6 series range;
Coupé – Two door cars with two petrol engine versions and a diesel. The petrol options are the eight cylinder 650i and the six cylinder 640i. The 640d is diesel.
The BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe
There are three BMW Series that offer Coupés – the 2 Series, 4 Series and 6 Series. The 2 Series is a sporty, compact 2 door, the 4 series is a medium sized good looking Coupé for a good price whereas the 6 series are undoubtedly high end luxury cars.
The three 6 series Coupés are a bit longer than the other Coupés to increase the rear passenger’s leg room so it is possible for adults to travel comfortably in the rear. The boot space is plenty big enough for normal usage. The convertible versions have one touch automatic opening of the roof, sun reflective seats covers and a low driving position to give protection from the wind. A summary of all the main reviews is that these cars are high quality, beautiful and easy to drive, flexible enough for lots of different uses and journey types. In addition they sit under a few important limits making them sensible choices for company cars. However their sensibleness means that they are not going to excite serious petrol heads – they are comfortable and effortless rather than pulse racing.
BMW X6
The petrol engines perform brilliantly but they are not particularly economical whereas the diesel versions are both incredibly responsive and efficient. This is not a car designed to be “off roaded” but rather is a sporty road car with the extra flexibility and handling options that a 4×4 offers. For those of you that live in the countryside and need to deal with fords, track or snow and ice this 4×4 offers a secure drive in these conditions that 2 wheel drives simply can’t match.
Reviewers have mixed views about these cars looks and some have criticised the lack of boot space and rear headroom (possibly unfairly as this is a coupe after all not a standard 4×4). The car seems to score relatively low with reviewers because they can’t seem to pigeon hole it with any other car and they find it relatively expensive. However they all agree that these cars drive and handle amazingly well; they are exciting and the M50d is highlighted as being particularly mad.
