BMW comemora 25 anos do lançamento do X5
The BMW X5, launched in 2000, marks the luxury SUV segment. This model introduced the concept of SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle) and expanded to other models such as the X1, X3 and X7. BMW M adopted this concept for high-performance vehicles, such as the X5 achieving motorsport success, including the Paris Dakar Rally.
The first generation of the X5 (E53) was revealed in 1999, creating a new segment. I have been using BMW experience since 1985 in vehicles with all-wheel drive, with a system that prioritizes the rear eixo. It was the first large-volume vehicle assembled at the BMW factory in Spartanburg, Carolina do Sul, USA, and became a global success. At first it included gasoline and diesel engines, with higher power variants later.
In 2004, the X5 incorporated the BMW xDrive all-wheel drive system, improving dynamic performance in various conditions. In the second generation (E70) there are BMW TwinPower Turbo engines and an automatic eight-speed transmission. This generation also introduces the BMW iDrive entertainment system in the first M version, with improvements to the body, suspension and steering.
The third generation (F15), launched fifteen years ago with the first X5, presents the xDrive40e plug-in hybrid variant. The M version includes the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission.
The fourth generation (G05), launched in 2018, features technological advances and design faithful to the origins of the BMW line. Including plug-in hybrid variants and recently, the 3.0 six-cylinder engine of the X5 won a prize from Auto Esporte Magazine. The model has been updated with the BMW iDrive 8 system and the optional BMW Digital Key Plus. The BMW iX5 concept explores the use of hydrogen as fuel.
The future of the X5 will focus on sustainability and adaptive technologies, maintaining its role in the SAVs segment.
